March 10, 2010 - Construction has begun on the next section of the Gilcrease Expressway - a 2.2-mile segment from the L.L. Tisdale Parkway to 41st West Avenue. This three-phase project will be built as a two-lane highway on a four-lane right of way, to allow for widening in the future.
During construction of the first two phases of the project, Osage Drive will be closed to through traffic between Apache Street and 36th Street North. A detour route will be posted utilizing Apache Street, the Tisdale Parkway and 36th Street North. This road closure will be in effect until completion of the second phase in May 2011. Access to area businesses will be maintained throughout the construction.
The first two phases of the project consist of grading, drainage - two large box culverts (bridges), two stormwater detention ponds near the bridges, a traffic signal at the Gilcrease Expressway and Tisdale Parkway, and paving on Osage Drive where it will intersect with the Gilcrease Expressway. Approximately ¾-mile of Osage Drive will be reconstructed on a new alignment.
The third phase, which will include paving the expressway between the Tisdale Parkway and 41st West Avenue, will be bid in 2011.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has entered into a $13,091,000 contract with Plains Bridge, Treas Construction and United General Contractors for this project. Completion of the first and second phases is scheduled for May 2011.
Project funding includes $2.6 million from the 2005 Bond Issue as a match for federal Surface Transportation Program funding for the remaining cost.

Design of this project is under way. It is scheduled to advertise and bid in winter 2011, with construction to begin in spring 2011. Funding has come from the 2006 Third Penny Sales Tax.
Feb. 17, 2010 - Two arterial street widening projects began in February 2010: South Lewis Avenue between East 61st Street and East 75th Street, and the intersection of East 91st Street and South Sheridan Road.
Lewis Avenue between 61st Street and 75th Street will be widened from four lanes to five lanes, with the fifth as a center left-turn lane. New traffic signals will be placed at intersections, to accommodate the wider road. Better storm drainage is a major part of this project: bar ditches will be replaced with curb, gutter and storm sewers.
Throughout the construction on Lewis Avenue, two lanes will be open for northbound and southbound traffic. Access to all businesses will be maintained. The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors Inc. for this $10 million project, which was funded with the 2001 Third Penny Sales Tax. Completion of the project is scheduled for July 2011.
The intersection of 91st Street and Sheridan Road will be widened to two through lanes in each direction, with both a right-turn lane and a left-turn lane on each leg. A new traffic signal also will be installed to accommodate the lane additions.
During construction, at least one lane will be kept open in each direction of the intersection and access to all businesses will be maintained. The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors Inc. for this $4.7 million project, which was funded with the 2006 Third Penny Sales Tax. Completion of the project is scheduled for December 2010.

Dec. 2, 2009 - Rehabilitation of the concrete pavement, as well as water and wastewater improvements beneath the roadway on Southwest Boulevard between West 23rd Street and the Arkansas River, began December 1, 2009.
The roadway was narrowed to one lane in each direction in order to allow for the installation of new waterlines, followed by the replacement of concrete panels on the road bed.
One of the City of Tulsa's "shovel ready" projects, Southwest Boulevard street construction is funded with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has contracted with Paragon Contractors L.L.C. for this $2,664,933 project. This is above the budgeted cost of $1.8 million because funding from City of Tulsa utility revenue was added for the water line, sanitary sewer, and associated sidewalk work. Construction is scheduled for completion in October 2010.
The project consists of pavement rehabilitation - replacing damaged concrete panels. A thorough reconstruction is included near the railroad crossing. Other parts of the project include replacement of a 12-inch waterline, addition and repair of sidewalks, upgrades to traffic signals at 23rd Street and 17th Street, and some sanitary sewer work. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout construction, with one lane open in each direction.
Widening begins on 81st, Memorial to Mingo

Work at the beginning of the project consists of water line and storm sewer construction on the south side of the road and building a detour lane on the north side of the road. A minimum of two lanes will remain open throughout the project for eastbound and westbound traffic.
The City of Tulsa has contracted with Sherwood Construction Co. for this $8.4 million project, which is funded by the 2005 General Obligation Bond Issue. In addition to the water lines and storm sewers mentioned above, the project will include curb, gutter and sidewalks on both sides. Completion of the project is scheduled for October 2010.
